Berry's Conjecture and Information Theory Typeset Using Revt E X

چکیده
It is shown that, by applying a principle of information theory, one obtains Berry's conjecture regarding the high-lying quantal energy eigenstates of classically chaotic systems. 1 In many problems of physical interest, it is necessary to abandon a search for the exact solution, and to turn instead to a statistical approach. This involves mentally replacing the answer which we seek, with an ensemble of possibilities, then adopting the attitude that each member of the ensemble is an equally likely candidate for the true solution. The choice of ensemble then becomes centrally important, and here information theory provides a reliable guiding principle. The principle instructs us to choose the least biased ensemble (the one which minimizes information content), subject to some relevant constraints. A well-known illustration arises in classical statistical mechanics: the least biased distribution in phase space, subject to a fixed normalization and average energy, is the canonical ensemble of Gibbs [1]. Another example appears in random matrix theory: by minimizing the information content of an ensemble of matrices, subject to various simple constraints, one obtains the

Probing the Qcd Pomeron in E + E Collisions Typeset Using Revt E X
The total cross section for scattering virtual photons at high energy is sensitive to pomeron physics. If the photons are su ciently virtual, QCD perturbation theory applies, so that the reaction probes the short distance pomeron. We study this reaction for present and future e e colliders. متن کاملAdjoint \quark" Color Elds in Four-dimensional Lattice Gauge Theory: Vacuum Screening and Penetration Typeset Using Revt E X
The elds generated by \quarks" in the adjoint representation of SU(2) color are analyzed in the scaling region of the four-dimensional lattice theory. Evidence of vacuum screening of adjoint quarks is obtained from a comparison of quark-antiquark (QQ) ux-tubes for quarks in the adjoint (\isospin" j = 1) and fundamental (j = 1=2) representations. The component E j of the colorelectric eld streng...
متن کاملExact Quantum State for N = 1 Supergravity Typeset Using Revt E X
For N = 1 supergravity in 3 + 1 dimensions we determine the graded algebra of the quantized Lorentz generators, supersymmetry generators, and diffeo-morphism and Hamiltonian generators and find that, at least formally, it closes in the chosen operator ordering. Following our recent conjecture and generalizing an ansatz for Bianchi-type models we proposed earlier we find an explicit exact quantu...
متن کاملThe Propagator for a General Form Field in Ads D+1 Typeset Using Revt E X 1
Using the known propagator equations for 0,1 and 2 forms in AdSd+1, we find the p-form field propagator equations in dimensions where the forms are Poincaré dual. Since the general equation obeyed by the propagators is linear in dimension, this gives us the equation obeyed by the propagators for any d. Furthermore, based on the Poincaré duality formulas for 0,1,2 and 3 forms we conjecture the g...
متن کاملDirected Percolation Conjecture for Cellular Automata Revisited Typeset Using Revt E X 1
The directed percolation (DP) hypothesis for stochastic, range-4 cellular automata with acceptance rule y ≤ ∑ 4 j=−4 si−j ≤ 6, in cases of y < 6 was investigated in one and two dimensions. Simulations, mean-field renormalization group and coherent anomaly calculations show that in one dimension the phase transitions for y < 4 are continuous and belong to the DP class for y = 4, 5 they are disco...
